I originally wrote this earlier in the month, about 12 hours after the downtown core and other parts of the City were hit with a month’s worth of rain in just under 90 minutes. After a pronounced lack of moisture for the better part of a month, many families, businesses, and condos were pumping water out of basements, drying out carpets and floors, and trying to figure out what to do next. I well remember the summer of 2013 in Etobicoke when we faced a similar situation, and the days and weeks it took to get houses and neighbourhoods back to a new normal. It is truly amazing what kind of devastation can happen within just a few hours.
